Zajecar Initative held press conference concerning local tax relief-small and medium enterprises

kzssmanjenoZajecar initiative started on February 2009 the implementation of the project called     "Reducing Barriers to Entrepreneurship Development in the Timok Region ", which is supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Institute for Sustainable Communities. The project is implemented in partnership with the Regional Association of Entrepreneurs  in the municipalities of Zajecar Knjazevac, Boljevac, Sokobanja, Kladovo and Negotin and the Association for the Development of the Bor Municipality.

Due to this,the Zajecar Initiative held the press conference on April 28, 2009 at the ZAMEDIA Center. They have presented the project "Reducing Barriers to Entrepreneurship Development in the Timok Region."

The aim of the project is to influence the local government in these municipalities to adopt the decision concerning local tax relief (the municipal land tax, business naming fee and the communal tax) for start-up small and medium enterprises in the first several years.This way, it will establish favorable business environment for the development of entrepreneurship, which will encourage citizens to start-up their own business.


The project will include advocacy campaign in the municipalities of Zajecar, Knjazevac, Boljevac, Sokobanja, Kladovo, Negotin and Bor. Over the next 8 months, it will be held a series of round tables, public discussions, TV debates and public events aimed at decision makers.

Young political activists are learning about the human rights and the rule of law

dscf1022smanjenaThe fifth module of the seminar within the project "Timok academy of leadership" was held on April 24 to 26, 2009 in Kladovo  in cooperation with OSCE. The topic of this module was "the human rights and the rule of law". The first and second day of the seminar young political activists listened presentations about the role of international organizations in the processes of reconciliation with past, the reform of the judicial system-organized crime, war crimes in former Yugoslavia, cooperation with the Hague Tribunal and violation of human rights. The third day of the seminar was dealing with war crimes-international and regional cooperation. The seminar was moderated by six different representatives of international organizations,National office for cooperation with the Hague Tribunal,the war crimes prosecutor and State Secretary at the Ministry of Human Rights and Minority Rights.

dscf0737smanjenaThe fourth module of the seminar within the project "Timok Academy of leadership" was held on March 27-29, 2009 in Kladovo. Young political activists were learning on this seminar about regional cooperation and security. The seminar was divided into six parts. During the first day the participants had an opportunity to listen to the presentation about new threats to democracy: terrorism, weapons of mass destruction and organized crime. In the second part, started on the second day of the seminar, the participants could learn about the transatlantic security architecture and the future of NATO. In the third part of this day was the theme about leadership. In the fourth part was institutions of the European Union and process for integration foreseen as a more interactive and practical exercise, which gave the participants an  occasion to interact with each other, exchange information and opinion and to discuss possible common strategies and actions for the future. In the fifth part should Serbia be military neutral? Also, participants watched documentary film. The next day, last presentation was regional security in southeast Europe. Young political activist had the opportunity to listen  to six different representatives of international, NGO organizations and university professor.
 
Final seminar of the project "We can change the world"

dscf0458gam_banja1The final seminar of the project "We can change the world" was held on March 13-15, 2009 in Gamzigradska banja. The seminar gathered 20 the most successful participants who showed the most interest during the process of their campaigns in four different municipalities in Timok region. Theme of the seminar was the debate and public skills. This seminar is realized in partnership with Norwegian People's Aid and Konard Adenauer Stiftung.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
Young political activists are learning PR skills

seminarkladovo                     Last weekend of February and March 1st , the third module of the seminar was held within the project "Timok academy of leadership."
The seminar participants were young activists from different political parties and different cities, such as Zajecar, Bor, Boljevac, Knjazevac, Kladovo and Jagodina. The theme of the third module was public relations and media skills training.

To the expiry of the deadline of the competition, it was submitted a total of 15 project proposals at the e-mail address   This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . All project proposals met basic criteria and the requirements were fulfilled. All project proposals are then forwarded to the award committee, which were the following members:

 

  • Srdjan Mitrović (Group let’s go, fundraising consultant,Belgrade);
  • Vesna Subotić (National Democratic Institute,Program Coordinator,Belgrade);
  • Zorica Maslovarić (Vice president of the municipality of Boljevac);
  • Darinka Mihajlović (Journalist RTZ,Zaječar);
  • Marija Sebić (Teacher in the student residence,Zaječar).
The Zajecar Initiative would like to say thank you to all the members of the Award committee for their willingness to provide its contribution to this program. The Award committee made their decision which was later confirmed by the committee of the Zajecar Initiative; within the program of small grants “titled Stride” following projects were selected:

•"Local Action Plan towards youth"- Resource Center,    Majdanpek;
• "Are you cold too!?"- Resource Center, Negotin;
• "Stop plastic river"- Eco-030, Majdanpek;
• "Interesting, successful, powerful"- Kokoro, Bor;
• "Strengthening the capacity of young people in the municipality of Knjazevac"- Center for creative development, Knjazevac;
• "Initiatives to regulation"-Association for the development of the municipality of Negotin;
• "02 young in Soko Banja"- youth organization, Soko Banja

Campaign to have a better sports hall in Boljevac

alim0293sp1300010sp1300014s                                                       Students from high school in Boljevac who participated in the project "We can change the world" and the ZI implemented this project in co-operation with the Norwegian People's Aid. Starting from today, they are running campaign for renovating parquet floor and fixing the lights in the sports hall. The campaign will last for 10 days and it will include press conference, petition, community action, video footage and  meeting with local authorities. The results of the survey  carried out on January 2009 demonstrated that the greatest problem among young people in this municipality is poor condition in the sports hall such as parquet floor and lights. Local authorities should demonstrate their willingness to deal with this significant problem and support needs of young people in the municipality of Boljevac. At the same time, they will give additional support to young people to get involved in sports.

The second module of the seminar held in Boljevac

Zajecar initiative held on Friday, January 23 2009 the second module of the seminar within the project "We can change the world." On this occasion, students from high school "Nikola Tesla" in Boljevac presented problems and needs of young people in this city, over 300 of their peers were surveyed. In the beginning of February, they will begin the campaign to resolve one of the observed problems. The project has been realized in co-operation with the Norwegian People’s Aid.

Iskorak - Finished Competition

Na ovogodišnjem konkursu, raspisanom u okviru programa malih donacija Iskorak, podneto je ukupno 15 predloga projekata. Za razliku od prošle godine, projekti su pristigli iz svih opština Timočke krajine. U toku je preliminarna selekcija predloga projekata. Projekti koji budu zadovoljili osnovne kriterijume, biće upućeni članovima Odbora za donacije radi dalje revizije. Sastanak odbora će se održati u Zaječaru tokom druge polovine januara 2009. godine, kada će se doneti odluka o tome koje će organizacije dobiti sredstva. Očekuje se da realizacija odobrenih projekata počne 1. februara 2009.
