Тhe third module for participants of the seminar ''Timok Academy of Leadership''

In Kladovo was
held the third module of the seminar participants Timok Academy for
leadership from 19 to 21 February. The seminar brought together 27 activists of political parties
and NGO from all over Timok region. After the
opening seminar and presentation of the program, participants had the
opportunity to see the film projection Vote for me. Topics of this module were negotiation, argumentation and debate, tax policy and budget decision-making andleadership. The fourth module of this seminar will be held from 5 to 7
March 2010th , also in Kladovo.
Conference „ We Have the Resources – Where is the Gap? “

The Zajecar Initiative has organized the conference titled „We have the resources – where is the gap?“ on January 28 in Belgrade in the “Guarnerius” Art Center. This one-day conference has brought together 28 participants in total. Respectable foreign and domestic stakeholders and representatives of local governments had an opportunity to discuss critical issues related to the economic situation and prospects of the Timok Region.
The conference was moderated by Mr. Miša Brkić, economic editor of the newspaper Politika who also was one of the speakers. Speaker list has also included Ms. Jelena Bojović, team leader of the Local Economic Development component of the MEGA Program and Mr. Andrej Popović, private sector development specialist from the World Bank.
In the second part of the conference, mr. Nebojša Marjanović, Mayor of Boljevac, mr. Dimitirje Lukić, Mayor of Sokobanja and mr. Ljubiša Jovanović, president of the Timok Region Regional Association of Entrepreneur have addressed the needs of their local communities as well as existing challenges to local economic development. A discussion has followed the presentations, enabling other participants to express their points of view.
The aim of this conference was to intensify dialogue and cooperation among local governments and domestic and foreign partners who could assist them in overcoming barriers to economic development.
The Timok Region is still considered as one of the underdeveloped regions in Serbia, and special attention should be given to the obstacles that hinder economic development and ways of reducing them.
The campaign to prevent cervical cancer started

On the occasion of the beginning of the
campaign for prevention of cervical cancer in Zajecar on December 24, 2009 was held the press conference in ZAMEDIA Center. This campaign was carried out by
an informal group of young people from Zajecar, Bor and Knjazevac in
cooperation with the Association of Citizens Zajecar Initiative.Doctor Zoran Roško and activists Tijana Marinovic and
Andrijana Vidojković have spoken on that press conference.
The aim of the campaign is primarily related
forfemales to draw attention to the
importance of regularly visiting a gynecologist.
In the last 5 years, only in the municipalities
of Timok Region of cervical cancer were cankered 343 women.141 women have died
until this day. Cervical cancer is related to HPV infection. Regular changes
can be detected at an early stage and prevent the development of cancer.Unfortunately,
many women first appeared gynecologist when the disease has already taken the
momentum and when treatment is difficult and uncertain.
In the next three weeks participants will share
the campaign's promotional material on busy sites in these three cities.
Distribution of promotional material will be organized in schools and colleges
in Timok Region. The campaign will include broadcast video clips on the Radio-Television
Zajecar as well as guest appearing of the activists on the local media. For the
younger population it will be organized the promo party in Zajecar club Irish
pub in Decembra 29, 2009.

Round table and public discussion are formed
First round table was held in the small hall of the
Municipality December 24, 2009 and then in the hall of the Regional Chamber
of Commerce public hearing titled Less local taxes - more jobs.
On that occasion the
importance of stimulating the adoption of measures for development of enterprising
at the local level, said Mr. Mijat
Lakicevic economy analyst, Mr. Ljubiša Jovanović, President of the Regional
Union of Entreprisers Timok Frontier and Mr. Vlado Madžoski from the General
Association of Entreprisers of Zajecar.
This project is supported by
the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) under the initiative of civil
society advocacy (CSAI).
Consultation with the local communities on an initiative to establish REKOM

Zajecar Initiative is as a member of the coalition
for REKOM organized consultations on the initiative 600 organizations from the
region for the establishment of the Regional Commission to determine the facts about war crimes and
other grave human rights violations in the former Republic Yugoslavia (REKOM).
Consultations with local community representatives
were held on December 22, 2009 in Zajecar , atHotel Srbija-Tis.
The participants were initially informed about the
related subject then they get the opportunity to express their opinion, the
proposal and recommendations of the consultative process during the Ex-Yugoslav
countries, the elements and activities REKOM.

Stojanovic, the director of Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Serbia and Milanka Šaponja-Hadžić, Consultant The Crime of War Project and Fund Human Right talked
at the meeting.
The local consultations
involved a number of members of local board political parties, who strongly
supported the initiative for the establishment of the Regional Commission stressed
that as soon as possible to include members of political parties, both position
and opposition.

initiative REKOM support: Royal Netherlands Embassy in Belgrade, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund,
United States Institute of Peace, National Endowment for Democracy, the Open
Society Fund, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bosch Foundation and Balkan
Trust for Democracy.

Тhe press conference on the occasion of the beginning of the campaign on the facilitation fee

General Municipal Association
of Entreprisers Zajecar in cooperation with Zajecar Initiative began a campaign
to make decision on fee relief for newly established small and medium
enterprises.On this occasion Zajecar
Initiative on December 15, 2009 held a press conference in the hall of the
Regional Chamber of Commerce Zajecar. On that occasion, the press has presented
the campaign goal, which is part of the
project titled Eliminating barriers to the development of entreprising in Timok
Region. The project is supported by the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) and the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC). During the month of December
in Zajecar will be held a series of events which will include public hearings,
round table, TV debate, and several street actions. General Association of
Entrepraisers of Zajecar and Zajecar Initiative believe that this project,of local authorities decide on the facilitation
fee, contribute to creating a positive framework for economic development.
Тhe second generation of the seminar Timok Academy of Leadership

Zajecar Initiative in
partnership with the Foundation Hanns Seidel and International Republican
Institute announced the call for participation in a program called Timok
Academy of Leadership. During this program which will last eight months young
people from Timok Region who are socially engaged will have the opportunity together
with prominent local and foreign politicians and experts in the field of
political science, public administration, economics, media and civil society
discuss on current issues relating to the region and the problems they face in
practice.
Until now they held two
modules. First was November 27th to 29th, 2009 in Zajecar and other was
December 4th to 6th, 2009 in Kladovo.
Participants of the first
module in Zajecar had the opportunity to, after opening the seminar and
presentation, listen to lectures on the role of media in a democratic society,
basic values and institutions of democracy, political and electoral systems,
political parties in Serbia, modern political ideologies and civil society and
citizen participation.
Participants in the other
modules in Kladovo could at the beginning of the program view projection of the
movie The War Room, and then listen to lectures on marketing in politics,
public relations in politics, survey of public opinion, media skills and public
appearances and political campaigns.
Participants in this seminar,
35 of them are activists of political parties and NGOs from all over Timok Region.

On the occasion calls for
project proposal, Zajecar Initiative on
Wednesday December 9, 2009 in ZAmedia centre was held presentation of smalldonation competition ISKORAK.
The program aim is that young
people start solving their own problems through activities directed to as the
decision makers and to the citizens.
On that occasion participants
of the competition, journalists and other guestthe program was presented thetender procedures, guidelines for filling out the form and required
documentation.
Total fund available with the
program amounts to 10 000 USD. Organizations may apply for a maximum of 2 000
USD, while the minimum amount is 1 000 USD.
Planned durationthe project is up to 3 months.
The
deadline for applying is December 11, 2009.
Final seminar of the project "Youth in Motion"

The final seminar of the project
"Youth in Motion" was held from June 28 to June 30 2009 in Gamzigradska Banja. The seminar brought
together participants from 7 different municipalities in the Timok Region; they
had the opportunity to listen lectures on negotiating, lobbying and advocacy.
Participants who attended workshops in Zajecar had the opportunity to apply the
acquired knowledge and skills through implementation of advocacy campaigns in
their cities. The jury, composed of representatives of the Zajecar initiative
and lecturer, they selected the 3 best teams that were rewarded with
appropriate gifts. The first place went to Soko banja, the second place to
Knjazevac and third place to Bor. All participants obtained diploma for being active
in the program "Youth in Motion"
Program "Youth in Motion" is supported by the National Endowment for
Democracy, in cooperation with Zajecar initiative.

The third workshop within the program „Youth in motion"
was held on June 6th, 2009 in Zajecar. The theme of this workshop was "the development
of planning skills and managing local campaigns."The participants will apply these
skills in resolving one of the observed problems.
